Land of Plenty, new work by Los Angeles artist Stephanie Mercado, ranges from dry point prints, luminous gouaches on paper to large oils. The pieces draw on Mercado’s love of the Romantic aesthetic of the eighteenth century, and her interest in tying historical displays of wealth to the pursuit of the American Dream.

The works’ beauty and their masterful execution don't mask the parallels the artist draws between today’s social injustices and those of centuries ago.
