REFUND POLICY: To withdraw from a class and receive a full refund, the request must be made at least 10 days prior to the beginning of the session. Classes with insufficient enrollment may be canceled or postponed. If Place cancels a class before the first meeting, a full refund will be issued automatically or, if preferred, credited toward another class at Place.

In this class, children will gather findings of Autumn Treasures in forms, shapes, and colors through drawing, painting, clay imprinting, and making collages.

Sketching on Location
Teens and Adults Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., meets Nov.8 and Nov. 15

The attitude of a sketch is different from anything else…a way to catch a fleeting inspiration, or capture a bit of life in the moment, without the need for elaborate finishing and detail. Through sketching on location, we can experience a place in a very personal way. We will explore different locations in the South Pasadena area each week with a variety of media in sketchbook format. Drawing Academy
Ages 9 - 12 Wednesday, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m., starts Oct. 29, meets 6 times, no meeting Nov. 27

Place Drawing Academy offers a program aimed at students with a passion for drawing who want to build and develop their skills and confidence, and work on personal portfolios. Bringing the 2D & 3D world of art together through drawing and sculpture, students will explore 2D drawing foundation, through traditional materials and techniques, then take their drawings off the page and turn them into a 3D sculptures. Line, form, texture, shape, value and scale are the cornerstone to both 2D & 3D worlds. Ordinary materials such as pencil, charcoal, ink, paint, tape, cardboard, hot glue and found objects are turned into extraordinary two and three-dimensional creations.

Drawing & Painting

Nature brings us many surprises season to season in all forms, shapes, and colors. In this class, children will explore the beauty of Autumn through creative art-making.  Children will be introduced to drawing and painting techniques such as sketching, shading, cross hatching, blending, erase away, using charcoal, pen and ink, soft pastel, also painting techniques of wet on wet, dry brushing, and texture overlapping using tempera and acrylic paint.

Figure Drawing
Wednesday, 7:30 - 9:30 p.m., meets 6 weeks, starts Oct. 29

An introduction to figure drawing techniques and concepts, with an emphasis on representational drawing and expression.  Projects help students build confidence in creating spatial illusions on a 2-dimentional surface and develop their creative voice by working from live models, photographs and memory. Working from a live model, students understand basic anatomy — bone structure, muscle mass, proportion – and techniques for capturing this knowledge through drawing.  By the end of this course, students learn to communicate mood, emotion and thought through line, gesture and image.

Painting
Saturday, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., starts Nov. 1, meets 6 times, no meeting Nov. 29

Welcome to all new students as well as those who are returning! We will continue to explore painting techniques and ideas in a relaxed, supportive environment. Drawing concepts will include negative Place and composition, foreshortening and perspective. We'll also be playing with different brushes and the marks they make. When we have had plenty of practice, we’ll create both abstract and figurative compositions, and work from live models. Materials will be acrylics and acrylic inks.
