Cathy Perlmutter
I’m a professional writer/editor who was born with a desperate need to make stuff with my hands! I’m a longtime quilter, with a quilting website () and quilt blog
(.) In the past couple of years, I've also plunged back into one of my teenage passions – crochet. Crochet hascome roaring back into popularity, and we're no longer talking about the decorative toilet paper covers that Grandma made (bless her heart) in the 1970s and before. There are amazing things going on in the
crochet world, including freeform crochet, amigurumi (cute little Japanese creatures), hyperbolic crochet (illustrating mathematical principles and creating extraordinary ruffled coral-reef type forms), faux food crochet, and wildest of all, community ‘yarn bombing,’ a totally non-violent art form that temporarily embellishes public landmarks with crocheted and knitted adornments. In short, there’s something for everyone in the crochet world. Best of all, crochet can be relaxing, improvisational, forgiving, and meditative – and everyone
gets it, sooner or later!
