A hands-on approach to doing fun fashion and lifestyle photography, including how to work with models - posing and direction, creating your own unique style through editing and learning ways to create a variety of looks and the “feel” you want to convey with your shots. We will investigate our neighborhood as a jumping off point for creating new worlds and some fantastical creatures in which they will live. We will do observational and landscape drawings, make illustrated maps, create unique animal masks from papier mache, and devise cool artifacts.

Back by popular demand! Students dive into the principles of modern design, looking at influential architecture, furniture and graphic design. Inspired by Californians Charles and Ray Eames, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Corita Kent, students will make model homes and furniture, and create graphic posters.

Come with us on a journey to Japan, India and Africa for inspiration, as we explore and create our own modern twist on handmade arts and explore textile design such as batik, paper weaving, calligraphy, tool-making, and printmaking.

Young artists will create fun and unique art projects based on contemporary art. Using inspiration from artists like SWOON, Nick Cave, Cindy Sherman, Chuck Close and Shepard Fairey, we will explore paper, pens and paint to create pieces of personal expression, environmental awareness, geometric pattern, and fantastic works of imagination!

Do you love to write? Do you want to meet other writers and talk about stories and plot and character development and narrative arches? Come to writing lab! Here we will discuss and explore the components of short stories, poems, personal essays, and other fictional/nonfictional pieces to discover what makes them tick, draw us in, and turn the page. We will use stream-of-conscious writing exercises and other writing prompts to get our brain juices flowing. By the end, those who want to will compile their writing into a group zine. Come write and meet other writers!
