Workshops for Teens

AGES 11 AND UP

Classes meet Monday - Friday   12:00 - 3:00 p.m.

July 25 - August 20

July 25 - 29

TEEN FICTION WRITING

In this fast-paced five day workshop, teens will get a crash

course in fiction writing.  Students will learn about character

development, plot, setting, dialog, pacing of a story and word

choice, and will complete several individual and/or group

assignments daily.  The class, designed to be fun and

instructional, will include games, competitions, and walking

field trips. Students leave the workshop with a portfolio of

their works, and because many of the basics of fiction-writing

translate into other forms of writing, the skills they’ve learned

help them prepare for language arts classes in the fall.

Taught by Alison Bell, author of the five-book ZIBBY PAYNE

series and teacher of the popular Place Beginning Fiction

workshop.

Fee: $200

August  1- 5

DIY ART

Inspired by Modern Art, teens will learn how to design

and create personal art they can wear and/or decorate

their rooms and lockers with. Custom t-shirts, wall art,

and wallets are among the options to choose from.

Fee: $200, Teacher: Marie Miller

August  8 - 12

DIGITAL VIDEO

Learn how to script, storyboard, film and edit a

short video. Students will work together in small

teams to develop and film their own concepts and ideas

using their own digital video cameras.*

We will work in iMovie on Macs where students will

learn editing techniques using transitions,

titles, music and sound. The completed videos will

be posted on YOUTUBE and made into viewable DVDs.

*(digital cameras must be compatible with Mac software).

Fee: $200, Teacher: Victoria Arriola

August 15 - 19

PHOTOGRAPHY

This is a photography class that will go beyond simply

learning about your equipment.  Students will learn

how to see light and how to tap into their own

unique vision.  Any digital cameras are welcome,

either a point and shoot or a DSLR. Past students

will work on an advanced curriculum with personalized

projects.  Get ready to explore!

Fee: $200, Teacher: Shannon Leith
