AGES 4 - 5
PRE-KINDER ART
Tuesdays, 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. meets March 9, 16, 23, 30
A process-oriented introduction to art-making and social interaction. We will introduce play with clay and other art media as they construct animal habitats and human environments, with the emphasis on open-ended exploration. They will develop their understanding of the elements of art - color, shapes, texture - as they define, refine and embellish these small worlds. Fee: $100, Teacher Karen Merchant -Yates
AGES 6 - 8
CURIOSITIES FROM THE NATURAL WORLD: PAINT/DRAW/MAKE
Wednesdays, 3:30 - 5:00 P.M., starts March 24
This class will inspire kids to make art using a variety of media by first learning about and looking at really strange things from the natural world.
We will consider creatures from the sea from the microscopic to fish with wings. We will look at animal architecture and the strange and beautiful structures of exotic plants. We will mix traditional and unexpected art materials in our projects. Fee: $220, Teacher Joan Swayze
AGES 6 & UP
OPEN STUDIO
Saturdays, 12:00 - 2:00 p.m., ONGOING
A drop-in studio offering self-directed creative projects each week. A variety of materials are offered allowing children of all ages to work at their own pace. Projects include artist trading cards, found object sculptures, printmaking, fabric painting, and more. Fee: $20/two hour session. Book one session or a 6 week series. RESERVATIONS REQUIRED. CERAMICS
Thursdays, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. starts March 25
A continuing clay exploration class good for both beginners and intermediate students. Continuing students will learn new techniques and finishing processes. For the new student we will also learn the basics of slab building, coiling and pinching, as each project is catered to the individual students ability. You will go home with finished fired and glazed masterpieces. Fee: $250, Teacher Rebecca Tager
AGES 9 & up
KITE MAKING
Fridays 3:30 - 5:00 P.M., starts March 26
Design your own flying sculptures. Students design the 2D graphics on paper or fabric, then develop their 3D structures into a mythical shape, abstract airborne sculpture, or traditional geometric shapes. Students will learn the fundamentals of the physics behind lift and drag to get their sculpture airborne and will bring their unique and personal ideas to this ancient art form. Students will be invited to a kite flying event at Garfield Park. Fee: $220, Teacher Marie Miller
AGES 9 - 11
FICTION WRITING
Tuesdays, 3:30 - 5:00 P.M., starts March 23
Author Alison Bell continues her Fiction Workshop for children ages 9 and up. Each week children will learn how to create characters, plot, dialog, and settings. They’ll also discuss point of view, foreshadowing, theme, and word choice. The class is highly interactive, with games, competitions, and group writing assignments all designed to let students express their creativity and inspire a love of writing. AGES 10 & up
DRAWING AND PAINTING
Mondays, 3:30 - 5:00 P.M., starts March 29
A continuation of learning drawing and painting skills. Students draw and paint a variety of subject matter ranging from a costumed figure, architecture, and objects to outdoor settings, while using dry and wet media including pastel, charcoal, watercolor, pencil, pen and ink, oils, and acrylic. Students learn how to see and observe detail and perspective, and add expressive qualities to their work. Fee $220, Teacher Val Trimarchi
DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Sundays, 2:00 - 4:00 P.M., STARTS March 28
This workshop is a hands-on experience with your camera. Professional photographer Kathleen McLaughlin will teach all the technical operations of your digital camera in Manual Mode. The class includes walking field trips, while learning exposure control, composition and portraits. Also included will be a fashion shoot, photo essay on the local retirement home, animals and abstract photography. Digital camera required. Fee: $280, Teacher: Kathleen Laraia McLaughlin

ADULTS
CONTAIN YOURSELF: CERAMICS WORKSHOP
Tuesdays, March 9, 16, 23, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
No experience needed, just the desire to create and have fun. You can choose to create a variety of projects including pinch pots, a vase, bowl, and more. All pieces are fired and glazed. Fee: $110, Teacher: Rebecca Tager.

FIGURE DRAWING - 4 Week Workshop
Thursdays, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., March 18 - April 8
Learn to draw the figure from a live model. This 4-week workshop teaches students the fundamentals of anatomy, gesture, proportion and expression. Develop your skills in technique through short and long poses using pencil, charcoal, pastel, markers, ink, and much much more! Beginning to Advanced students are encouraged to join.
